Janet to star in Tyler Perry’s film ‘For Colored Girls’ + New Music
This is exciting news for all the Janet fans/family! News broke out that Janet Jackson has signed on to star in For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. According to AOL Black Voice’s Tyler Perry revealed the cast at the Why Did I Get Married Too? premiere in NYC. In addition to Janet the film’s cast will include Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, and Macy Gray.
The film is based on Ntozake Shange’s award-winning 1975 play consisting of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women. The poems deal with love, abandonment, rape, and abortion. It is scheduled to shoot in June in New York with a possible winter 2010/2011 release date.
If the report is true, this would be Janet’s third film with Perry.
For Colored Girls will be the first project for 34th Street Films, Perry’s new production company, which is housed at Lionsgate.
