Tiger Woods Takes ‘Indefinite’ Break From Golf Plus Some Sponsors End Relationship

Tiger Woods has admitted to his infidelities via his website on Friday. He also decided that it’s best to take an ‘indefinite’ break from golf to handle his personal family issues. This what Tiger posted on his website:

I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.

Reportedly, some of his sponsors have decided to distance themselves from Tiger while he deals with the situation. However, he still has support from some sponsors. Find out who after the jump.

According to CNN, Nike (his main sponsor) issued a statement saying Woods “and his family have Nike’s full support.”

“He is the best golfer in the world and one of the greatest athletes of his era,” Nike spokeswoman Beth Gast said in the statement. “We look forward to his return to golf.”

Other sponsors that are sticking with Tiger for the time being are EA Sports, Gatorade and Tag Heuer. However, there is no word if that will change in the future.

According to the Associated Press, Global consulting firm Accenture Ltd. is ending its sponsorship of Tiger Woods, saying the golfer is “no longer the right representative” after the “circumstances of the last two weeks.”

Gillette won’t air advertisements featuring Tiger Woods or include him in public appearances for awhile. However, they did not comment whether or not they were terminating their relationship.

AT&T is currently evaluating their relationship with Tiger.

My two cents: Tiger I hope the nookie(s) was worth it.
